Abstract

This article examines the effectiveness of public participation in preventing environmental degradation in Indonesia, focusing on the involvement in the preparation of Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) and Detailed Spatial Plans (RDTR). The results indicate that public participation in KLHS and RDTR is ineffective in safeguarding the environment. Key factors include limited environmental knowledge and low economic levels. These challenges lead the public to prioritize economic concerns over environmental preservation, as their primary focus shifts toward securing livelihoods rather than advocating for environmental sustainability.
