Abstract

The accessibility of urban parks is a major issue faced by users, especially those belonging to vulnerable groups. Accessibility in urban public spaces has become an ongoing issue because accessibility is not only a matter of physical infrastructure, but also includes social, educational, economic and cultural aspects. Urban parks are social spaces that serve as gathering places, recreational spaces, joint activities, intergenerational interactions, as well as educational and cultural facilities. Pakui Sayang Park is a Makassar city park located within the government office area and located in the main corridor of the city is a city park that provides diverse facilities. However, its existence has not been able to accommodate the needs of users with diverse backgrounds. The research objective is to evaluate the accessibility of city parks based on accessibility principles and user activities. The research methodology used is the evaluation method and behavioral mapping. Data collection techniques used layout data, distribution of facilities, assessment of the achievement of accessibility principles and spatial distribution of activity patterns. The results showed that: (1) Accessibility patterns in the park are based on the needs of facilities and user activities; (2) accessibility conditions in the Sufficient category, accessibility is prepared more for compliance with standards and is normative; (3) Activity patterns follow the shape of the elements, and the availability of elements in the park; (3) Park user characteristics are dominated by teenagers and adults; (4) The diversity of activities in the park indicates the diversity of social interactions. The existence of Pakui Sayang City Park is expected to be a prototype of urban inclusive space that can define equality of public green open space for all users.
